Le Domaine Saget
The Saget family’s roots in Pouilly-sur-Loire
Domaine Saget is the ultimate illustration of a deep-rooted desire by the Saget family to perpetuate traditions coming from nine generations dedicated to the vine’s finest offerings. The Saget family has been growing Sauvignon blanc in the heart of the village of Pouilly-sur-Loire for nine generations. Down the years, the family’s finest vineyards have been gathered together, favouring the purest expression of Pouilly-Fumé. Domaine Saget now covers 10 hectares and embraces prestigious localities such as Les Vaurigny and Les Roches. Its outstanding quality terroirs and meticulous craftsmanship enable Domaine Saget to create wines that reflect the typicity of the Pouilly-Fumé and Pouilly-sur-Loire appellations impeccably. The estate’s wines are grown mostly on clay-limestone soils from the Kimmeridgian stage and then matured for 6 to 8 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks to impart complexity and structure. The resultant wines are mineral, generous and fruity. Domaine Saget produces two Pouilly-Fumé labels from Sauvignon and one Pouilly-sur-Loire from the original Pouilly grape variety: Chasselas. The Domaine Saget is a clear-cut, airy wine with a mineral framework. “Les Roches” is elegant and refined and reveals substantial length on the palate, whilst the Pouilly-sur-Loire “Les Sablons” is rich yet tense and achieves perfect balance.
